Introduction to the first book of Chronicles

The 13th Book of the Bible, Genealogies, and David’s Reign

The two Books of Chronicles also originally consisted of a single scroll.

The name derives from the Latin Vulgate translation, which refers to the books as “Liber Chronicorum,” or “Book of Chronicles” in English.
The Hebrew title is “Devri Hayyammim,” which means “Events of the Times.”

In the Jewish Talmud, we find Chronicles as the last book of the Hebrew Bible, at the end of the third section, the Writings (Ketuvim).
In Christian Bibles, the Books of Chronicles are classified among the historical books.

In terms of content, the Books of Chronicles revisit the history of Israel, beginning with Adam and Eve, and immediately highlight the kinship of all humanity through the genealogies at the beginning.

Furthermore, the First Book of Chronicles describes in detail the reign of King David and his preparations for the construction of the Temple.

The author or authors of Chronicles are unknown. Unlike the Books of Kings, Chronicles was written only after the Babylonian Exile; some Bible interpreters suggest Ezra as the author.
